Through my interpretation of the Earth Mother, Onatah represents the life-giving forces of nature—nurturing, transforming, and bringing forth new beginnings.

What began as a vison gradually took shape through the creative process. A beautiful piece of driftwood became an integral part of the sculpture, its organic form merging with the clay until the two appeared to belong to one another.

Through Onatah, I wanted to express the inseparable relationship between humanity and the earth—how we are shaped by nature, sustained by its gifts, and forever connected to its cycles of growth, transformation, and renewal.

Onatah

Inspired by Onatah, a figure associated with corn, nourishment, and growing life in Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) tradition, this sculpture embodies the sacred connection between humanity, nature, and creation.

This piece holds a deeply personal meaning, as it was created throughout my pregnancy with my daughter. As new life grew within me, so too did Onatah. With each passing stage of my pregnancy, the sculpture evolved, becoming a reflection of the extraordinary connection between motherhood and the natural world.

The Earth Mother.

As I gave form to the Earth Mother, I was becoming a mother myself.
